Fundamentals

The Instituto Argentino de Siderurgia (IAS), within the scope of the Technical Cooperation Agreement signed with the Argentine Institute for Standardization and Certification (IRAM), carries out the process of developing standards related to steel products, their inputs, welding and related aspects.

IAS participates in the study of standards at a regional level, especially with the MERCOSUR Standardization Association (AMN) and the Pan American Commission of Technical Standards (COPANT).

The work carried out under this Agreement is in charge of the IRAM / IAS Coordination Committee, composed of representatives of each of the institutions, taking into account the requirements of producers and users, government programs and the scientific-technical area.

The work plan is developed, firstly, in IAS, through specific Study Groups, with the participation of the interested sectors: users, producers, institutions and public and private organizations.

The results are then sent to IRAM so that, once the usual procedure has been completed, they are approved as Argentine Standards identified by the acronym IRAM/IAS.

This system of study of standards of products and steel supplies between institutes of standardization and institutes of steel is frequent in most of the countries, since it facilitates the advance in the standardization of the sector.
